The King's Academy U16 Hockey Team has won the U16 Cleveland School Girls County Hockey League 2009-10 Season!
The league includes the best hockey playing schools in Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland and comprises teams from Teesside High School, Red House, Acklam Grange, Rye Hills (Finalists last season), Egglescliffe School (Winners of the League last season) and Laurence Jackson School.
The team have been working extremely hard since September and on Friday 19th March, all their hard work and weeks of training paid off as they were announced Winners of the League 2009-10. The path to success has been a challenge, with their most impressive victories being a 12-0 win at Laurence Jackson School (semi-finalists in the League last season) and 12-0 against Macmillan Academy (runners-up last season). In their last six games of the season alone, the squad has scored 34 goals!
Miss Smith, teacher of PE and Coach for the U16 team at The King's, is ecstatic with their achievement. "This is the highest hockey playing accolade that any of The King's Academy hockey teams have achieved to date".
"Not only have staff from the opposing schools commented on the high level of skill displayed by the King's girls. Their positive attitude and humility demonstrated during games that they have won easily, has also been noted".
The girls; Hannah Lamb (Captain), Ruby Hughes, Rachael Thomas, Georgina Nicholls, Emily Newton, Emily Pearce, Hannah Dawes, Lydia Kirby, Amy-Jo Fletcher, Rachel Lindberg, Rebecca Briggs and Sophie McGhee truly are a credit to themselves, their families and the Academy. Well done to you all!
