As part of the Nationwide Sports Relief Campaign, students from The King's embarked upon a fun run around the Academy grounds on the afternoon of Friday 12th March 2010, to raise funds to support Sports Relief and the three Academy charities.
Mr Lynch, teacher of PE pioneered the event, which involved students from every year group and any member of staff fit enough to negotiate the challenge. To enhance the event even further, participants were encouraged to dress up in fancy dress and by 2.30pm Friday afternoon a varied array of colours, shapes and sizes had gathered around the starting line.
The competitors didn't disappoint with all runners flying off to the first corner of the course on the whistle. All except for one tutor group 7 Walker, who found it difficult to negotiate the course dressed as a caterpillar; completing one mile in a long line fronted by their Assistant Tutor Mr Winn! Mr Weedy and Mr Johnson provided Oscar worthy performances for their athletic prowess, with numerous Zorro's, supermen, cow boys and girls, a Donald Duck, a banana and even Monsters Inc's very own Sully, making an appearance.
Mr Lynch was particularly impressed by the three hundred strong turnout. He explained "Participants across all year groups were determined to achieve their target distance, with the majority of students aiming for the ultimate 3 miles. That's 9 full laps around the Academy!"
The following week saw the sponsor money come flooding in, with the final total reaching an incredible £1560.72. A fantastic achievement by all competitors and a big ‘thank you' goes to all the students, staff and parents who supported this event.
